David Terry, self-portrait 2018
Before I get going on this -- and before David Terry jumps all over me, as I WILL make certain he gets a copy of this posting -- let me say that NOTHING David Terry ever did was destructive enough to diminish his talents as an Artist. The above recent self-portrait is proof of that!!!
David Terry and I met on Wrightsville Beach summer of about 1992 -- and I visited him several times -- even before he lived with Laura Argiri in Durham -- Laura's The God in Flight broke new ground for gay novels -- although some of its story threads did not hang together well.

When I met him, David had recently been given the social shove by the "Old Dowagers" (his term), of the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill Triangle -- including Betty (Price) Kenan. Some things I learned from David back then:
1. Allan Gurganus is my 4th cousin, his book, Broadway play, TV movie Oldest Confederate Widow Tells All, won many Emmys in 1989, Lucy Honicut and her husband Captain William Marsden were re-named, fictionalized, but VERY loosely based on my Great Grandparents:

David had only one of the "Old Dowagers" (who was less old), who remained close to him, Elizabeth Edwards, who COMMISSIONED David to make some early posters for John Edwards's Presidential Campaign -- but then THAT blew up COMPLETELY!!!
I found it interesting that Thomas S. Kenan III (whose ex-boyfriend Curtis "Robbie" Anderson, I dated in 1985), now 80 years old actually gave John Edwards $1,000.00 toward his Presidential Campaign -- the ONLY Democrat I've found Tom contributing to -- I BET because they were Chapel Hill NEIGHBORS, and he felt he had to (while contributing FAR MORE personally and through Oil Industry PACS to John McCain's Candidacy).

David Terry graduated from Sewanee/University of the South -- the school that MURDERED Tennessee Williams and stole his estate from Harvard -- just like Jackie Kennedy Onassis warned Tennessee at Jean Babette Stein and George Plimpton's party, January 11, 1982. Valued at $10 Million at Tenn's death, the Estate (and now renamed the Walter Dakin Fund after Tennessee's grandfather who earned his Divinity Degree at Sewanee), the Estate is now worth about $2/3 Billion.
Sewanee is ALSO where the Episcopal Church USA keeps its MOST SACRED SYMBOLS ALIVE -- although now hidden from view. When Rt. Rev. J. Neil Alexander HID the Episcopal Confederate Mace in 2005 -- ONLY due to "Political Correctness" -- Alumni Donations to Sewanee TANKED and Rev. Alexander used FUNDS FROM TENNESSEE WILLIAMS'S ESTATE to FAKE HIGH FIGURES. But Sewanee's Episcopal Alumni were FURIOUS that the Confederacy was being DISRESPECTED!!!
But he KEPT the Seal of the Confederacy and the Episcopal Church's DEVOTION to White Supremacy alive in this window in the CHAPEL of this DIVINITY SCHOOL until October 2018:
I'm not certain when this happened, but here is a write-up -- last updated in June 2019, and continuing . . .
What is MORE THAN OBVIOUS is that the Episcopal Church at its CORE is still wedded to White Supremacy (but that is HIDDEN from the naive so they KEEP SENDING MONEY)!!!

They and their near relatives have given the Episcopal Church USA at least $100,000,000.00 over the last 100 years -- that I found documented.
As Tom Kenan's cousin Gregg Loomis of Atlanta first told me in 1990 -- and several of Tom's friends today have told me in the last year is still true, "The wealthy Kenans hate only JEWS more than they hate 'Niggers'!!!"
And David Terry ALWAYS made fun of Black people -- here is his SALUTE to White Supremacy of the Episcopal Church/Sewanee:

Perhaps the LONGEST TITLE of any of David Terry's work!!!
And David had a thing for Chuck Knipp's "Shirley Q. Liquor" (a welfare queen he played in blackface):
And sadly, for much of the last decade, Mr. Terry had fallen under the LOVE SPELL of the French Physician and Researcher, Herve Mommeja-Marin, and SUCCUMBED to Herve's liberal prescribing of Opioid Pills -- often nearly TOTALLY incomprehensible when I spoke with him.

Dan Savage's middle name is Keenan -- the Irish-Catholic form of the Scots-Presbyterian Kenan.
In the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary published by the Unity Church, "Kenan" means "The Sadness" or "Unbridled Greed and Acquisitiveness".

And although both my ancestors who fought in the Civil War were TRAITORS to the USA (Confederates), earlier Kenans fought VALIANTLY for Independence from the British Crown!!!
