Hello fellow Democrats!!!

I know we are all rather battle weary as we navigate this challenging time in this American experiment. I know because I see you firsthand. You ask me all the time what you can do? The frustration and anxiety are real. I get it. I feel it, too. And here is what I believe and here is what I am doing. I believe that if you can identify an issue or two that you care about most…focus on that! Instead of the shotgun approach, find your lane! For many it will be traditional party politics, so recommit and dig into the New Hanover Democratic Party! For others it may be the environment, so dig in with Cape Fear River Watch or the Sierra Club, or Audubon. It may be reproductive care, so follow the lead of Planned Parenthood. Maybe it’s racial justice with the NAACP or the ACLU. Voting rights…Common Cause. Gun Violence... Moms Demand Action. You get the idea.

As for me, I am proud to announce that I now serve as a Founder and a Co-Chair of the newly established Progress Now Caucus of the North Carolina House . We intend to be the tip of the spear working as an adjunct to the greater Democratic Caucus amplifying our voices with timeliness and passion because these times call for just that.

I am renewed. I am refreshed. And I am committed to this mission.

At the NAACO meeting in Washington, D.C. I did get my resolution passed in the Energy Environment and Land Use Committee - it is about liability protection for Counties, for PFAS contamination, so counties cannot be sued if our landfills and wastewater treatment plants are emitting PFAS above the EPA maximum contaminant levels. We are ‘passive receivers’, the real culprits are the manufacturers who made the PFAS - the resolution passed unanimously.
