On This Day in History, "Mr. President" Was Born!!!

One of America’s best-loved presidents, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, is born into a politically and socially prominent family in Brookline, Massachusetts, on this day in 1917. He was the first American president to be born in the 20th century.

>>> ON WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN JFK'S 98TH BIRTHDAY:

The first thing to remember, is that not ONLY do I occasionally give a single clap every ten or so years for JFK -- because my mother took Jane and me to see him in Louisville, and that set the record for length of applause for him, so life-long, I have remained the LAST one clapping.

Then in 1982, I met Jackie Kennedy Onassis at Jean Stein and George Plimpton's party after Mayor Koch presented Tennessee Williams with an award. I've blogged enough about that party and what Jackie told Tennessee. Here is the story WITHOUT the political parts: http://laterdaysoftennesseewilliams.blogspot.mx/2013/10/chapter-23-uptown-soiree.html.

And then in late 2009 or early 2010, Jackie Onassis appeared to me in what was a small series of JUST LIKE "classic Catholic visions", in a flat, pointy oval rimmed with licks of flames, in the mid-distance between me and my living room fireplace.

Now I KNEW it was not "real" in the sense of having anything to do with physical reality, and I heard no voices or similar, but through osmosis, seemed to get her messages, which I have acted on.

Twice JFK appeared behind her, simply smiling, once JFK, Jr. appeared as John-John saluting his Dad's casket-on-the-caisson, later as an adult (who "said" he should have checked the plane's engine that day -- he knew some were trying to kill him) -- and once, all the Dead Presidents lined up like cardboard cut-outs in sepia tone, except George Washington in living color in a white toga, laughing and clacking his wooden teeth at me.

These visions never returned, so if PSYCHOTIC, it was six years ago, and I can NO LONGER BE COMMITTED FOR IT.

However, it was during one of these that I PROMISED Jackie and Jack I would work to one day GET THEIR REVENGE!!!

>>> ON TO OTHER THINGS:

1. Yesterday, I gave Ryan Lee Burris credit for changing Gov. McCrory of North Carolina's mind about the legislation allowing government officials NOT to perform gay marriage duties -- mostly because the two of us have had a fun ROLLER-COASTER of a friendship.

Ryan Burris

Ryan worked passionately on that -- like many other things -- and NOW he has been elected to one of the TOP FIVE positions in the New Hanover County Democratic Party -- and Elizabeth Redenbaugh was elected HEAD!!!!

However, Ryan (and others), loved it -- and among other things, he "Liked" my simple re-posting of Denison University's (which he has no connection to), recent award for COMMUNITY SERVICE. So I took that to mean that the County Democrats (including Ms. Redenbaugh), can USE my info to POLITICAL ADVANTAGE!!!

2. And that brings me to wanting to expand on ALL the good news out of Denison the last week.

The incoming class this fall is now set, and includes the HIGHEST DIVERSITY EVER, only a third of students from Ohio, and the largest number yet from foreign countries. Additionally, those accepted have the highest grade-point average in Denison's history -- and racial/cultural diversity continues to climb. (Diversity is a long-stated goal of Denison.)

REMEMBER: Denison (including when I went there -- and the ONLY reason I could afford it), GUARANTEES that if you get accepted, they will find the way for you to pay for it. And they gave me grants-in-aid for about 1/3 the total cost, my parents paid 1/3, and I paid the other 1/3 from savings, work during summers and all through all four years at campus jobs, and two small loans (coming to less than $2,000.00).

And the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust's GIANT grant to Denison in 1974 was to INCREASE the endowment that makes this possible. Two years ago, I had enough money to send Denison $100.00, and I had it listed as "IN THANKS to the Kenan Trust for its support of Denison".

FROM HEREhttp://denison.edu/news-events/press-releases/denison-honored-for-community-service

The college is one of only 61 institutions of higher education nationwide that has earned the designation of Honor Roll with Distinction for “the extraordinary and exemplary community service contributions of its students, faculty, and staff in meeting critical community and national needs.”
This year’s designation is based on the community service of students in the Denison Community Association, service learning courses, athletic teams, Greek organizations and Community Service Interns America Reads literacy tutors. Eighty-six percent of Denison students did some form of service last year, during which they contributed nearly 45,000 hours of service
3. Dean Hansell actually REVITALIZED and better ORGANIZED the Denison Community Association when he was its president the 1972 - 73 year -- and he was so ENTHUSIASTIC, he really got the campus far more involved!!!

2013

Dean Hansell ’74, one of the student founders of Jewish Life at Denison, shared his testimony of what it was like to be Jewish on campus in the 70s, a time when outing oneself as anything other than Christian triggered awe from one’s peers.

“Students dealt with a lack of awareness and ignorance more than anti-semitism,” Hansell said, though, just as homophobic and racist sentiments lurk beneath the surface of Denison’s culture today, anti-semitism was, in the opinion of him and other alumni, definitely around.

>>> ALL IN ALL -- IT WAS A VERY GOOD WEEK!!!

Even for "God"!!!

Happy birthday to JFK!
He was not perfect, but he stood up against the war machine, institutional racism, and more. Every single president after him has been an employee of the ruling class.
