In the book, The Kenan Family, both 1967 and 1999 Mercer University Press editions, this appears:
In the 1967 edition, the Kenans claimed to have the ROYAL LINE of North Carolina Royal Governor Johnston (who had DROPPED the "e" seen above when he came to America), by marriage of his daughter Elizabeth Johnston to James Kenan (whose brother William I am descended from).
But Marie D. DeLamar PROVED that was NOT true when she updated the info for the Mercer University Press edition, not online, so I just scanned the image below.
