The second DC EAGLE, at 908 7th St NW, opened the day after first DC Eagle closed in 1979. It is reported that members of the local motorcycle clubs and leather community helped move property from the old 9th St location to the new 7th St location overnight. Don and Eddie Bruce (plus Dick McHugh) continued their ownership. The new location was much grander than the first one. It had three floors: the first floor was the bar, with a large main room and a dress-code room for the bikers and leathermen; the second floor was very good restaurant run by Barbara Bruce, Don’s sister-in-law, with a large window overlooking 7th St; and the third floor was a shop (the “Leather Rack”) selling leather clothing and paraphernalia. Due to continued redevelopment in that neighborhood, the second DC Eagle closed in 1987.
The first three photos are “Then” photos of the exterior of the second DC Eagle facing 7th St. The first shows a row of motorcycles parked out front of the bar and a window on the second floor looking into the restaurant. The second photo shows another view of the spaces above the first floor. The third photo shows the wide staircase leading up from the bars on the first floor to the restaurant on the second floor. And the fourth photo is a “Now” photo that shows the glass and steel office building built at the corner of 7th St and I St NW, where the second DC Eagle had been.
